We went to a beach festival “Pietauvots Liepājā”
On our walks, we always try to take the opportunity to see and explore all the interesting things that are happening in our city, and this time we gave people with disabilities the pleasure of going on the Naval Festival “Pietauvots Liepājā” We want to share how we celebrated this event.
As is due to the festivities, we dressed appropriately - each of us wore a sea theme - in shades of blue and white, or with wavy graphic elements in our clothing. We had two young companions on this walk, who live in Saldus. We started our route on the port promenade, with a variety of interesting sights spread over its length.
At Liepāja Yacht port we were able to see modern boats of Liepāja. Further, as we walked towards the customs zone, we could see various water sports vehicles as well as water vehicles for recreation in Lake Liepāja and the canal.
As with every Naval Festival, the Marine Corps territory (Port of Liepāja Pier 84) was also opened to residents, and there we got to know the equipment and equipment of the diving team and mine warfare tactical support centre, as well as a variety of interesting facts from the divers, such as blowing warm air into their scuba during cold weather to make it warmer for them diving in cold water. Some of us then boarded the Marine Corps ship and inspected its deck.
After inspection of the boats and ships, we went on to the Customs Square, there was a musical performance “Kapteiņa stāsti” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Latvia. The music was performed by the composer Zigmārs Liepiņš. There we could see an exhibition made by artist Reinis Kuncītis, which symbolically reflected both the ancient time of the fishermen of the village of Līva and the welcome of the historic 1919 event ship Saratov in Liepāja and the modern port city. We felt ourselves as true captains, steering the wheel of the ship. Also impressive was the installation of art opposite the spike, on the wall of the old warehouse, colourful plastic boxes attached to it that usually are used for the caught fish. Arranged as if a sea wave had splashed onto the corner of the house and scattered around. As we went a little further, we also went to the Loču Tower, the oldest preserved technological object in Liepaja. Hopefully it will also be open for viewing to visitors soon.
After exploring Promenade, we relaxed from the heat on the outdoor terrace outside the concert hall “Great Amber,” and with it ended our Naval Festival adventure.
