Chairman of the society for the blind of Liepāja and expert on universal design and social inclusion, Māris Ceirulis, advises companies, institutions and private individuals on issues of universal design.

Within the framework of the social inclusion project of Liepāja City Council “Palīdzēsim cits citam iedrošinot un praktiski atbalstot”  (No. 26/2.8.5) until 31st December Māris Ceirulis:

• As an expert on universal design and social inclusion, will carry out surveys of various institutions, buildings, renovated buildings and new constructions, evaluation of building projects to advise in person, by telephone or electronically on issues of universal design and accessibility of the environment, and compliance with the conditions related thereto. In practice, universal design means taking a particularly careful approach to designing, implementing and maintaining architecture and services so that any product or service can be useful and easy to use for as many people as possible.  Once the pandemic subsides, educational events will also be organised:

• Seminars will be organised on emotional intelligence, universal design and how to work with people who have disabilities and their support for people working in different services – employees of health institutions, entrepreneurs, representatives of local governments, employees of educational institutions, etc. Such workshops are scheduled for this December and will be hosted by Māris Ceirulis. The duration of one seminar is expected to be 6 hours and a maximum of 15 participants are planned in the group. A certificate will be issued to each seminar participant for participation in the seminar.
• In addition to the seminars, educational “Nāc iepazīsti manu pasauli” tours will be offered to students, groups of different institutions and organizations, camp participants, families, etc. During the guided tour, the Liepāja society for the blind will be acquainted with activities, social rehabilitation services offered, technical aids, as well as the possibility to walk the society blindfolded using a walking cane. The approximate duration of the tour is up to 2.5 h.

The events will be organised in accordance with national epidemiological safety rules.
