This year's first two seminars - “Universal Design and emotional Intelligence in Contact with People with Disabilities” - have gone by

Employees from different institutions, both from the nursing home apartment and employees from state's social care centre's Liepāja's branch, gained new knowledge.
Topics such as:
 the nature of emotional intelligence, the concept of disability, the medical and social model of disability
 societal stereotypes, prejudice and overcoming of people with disabilities
 support for successful adaptation and integration of family and other peers into society
 emotional intelligence building successful communication between staff of the institution and people with disabilities. How to communicate with different target groups of people with disabilities: functional, visual, auditory, and mental development disorders.
 Universal design concept and meaning
Participants during the seminar had the opportunity to get into the role of people with disabilities and understand what it was like to move around, recognize their surroundings and objects if their eyesight is taken away. Participants donned a variety of eye disease simulation goggles during the seminars so they could understand more about how people who have different eye diseases feel - cataract, glaucoma, damage to the vitreous body, retinal detachment, side vision, tunnel vision, diabetes. Tried to orient themselves with blindfolded eyes using a white cane and using other senses trying to recognise different objects.
The next seminar is scheduled for May, if you and your organization's employees also want to participate in an educational one-day seminar (6 astronomical hours) on the topic of “Universal Design and emotional Intelligence in Contact with People with Disabilities.”
