The event cycle 'Draugs, nāc draudzēsimies!' concludes with Zanda Štrausa concert
on August 24th, people with disabilities and seniors met at the last of a total of 7 matchmaking events, “Draugs, nāc draudzēsimies!” We ended this beautiful cycle of events with a concert and creative activities by Zanda Štrausa, a singer, actress and teacher.
The singer performed familiar and popular tunes to many during the concert, lasting more than an hour, complementing them with beautiful songs. She performed songs such as “Bruņinieka dziesma” from the play “Princis un ubaga zēns”, “Nesaki man neko”, Mārtiņa Freimaņa songs “Lai būtu tā” and “Tu esi mans draugs”, maestro Raimonds Pauls “Mēmo dziesmu”, the song “Balta saule” and Ainažu vecajā skolā”, and the song from “Čikāgas piecīši” – “Es zinu, ka mēs vēlreiz satiksimies”.
Amizant stories from life
In addition to the musical performances, Zanda told us various stories from life. For example, when Mārtiņs Freimanis songs ““Lai būtu tā” video was recorded in Liepaja, she was also invited to film. The screenwriter of the video, Dagmāra Legante, called her and said she would have to put her hair into curlers and pull on her nightgown. She had no rolls or nightgowns, but somehow both things for the day of filming were sourced. On the day of filming, she sat in both nightgowns and rolls at the old Captain restaurant, waiting for the filming group to arrive to film her. Sitting there all day, people she knew passed her every now and then, wondering why she was sitting at the restaurant's table in such an outfit. With all the hard waiting, the film crew didn't come that day and also had to “pose” for those around them in that garment the next day. She was shown for about 15 seconds in the video, but had to spend two days in a nightgown and rolls for it.
Heartfelt wishes to fellow human beings
As this is the latest twinning event, the head of the “Dienas centrs” and organiser of these events, Inese, said goodbye to everyone with heartfelt wishes. Jars trimmed with lace stood on tables, each with 5 items placed to mark each bequest. 1. in the jar was yarrow - let people have white, clean, light thoughts like a yarrow; 2 sorrel, which easily falls when moved – so that our joy is as unadulterated, sour and sticky as sorrel flowers; 3. catpaws – let love be as yellow, bright and warm as these cat-paw flowers; 4. elderberry – so that everybody is as healthy as an elderberry; 5. mint - the story of mint is that when it just stands, it is green leaf, but when it is rubbed, it gives all the good it has.
Continuing our motive for hope, we made "birds of hope" out of paper at the end of the event. We chose red and white for these birds so that they can be presented to our Latvia on our birthday, November 18. We hung them in the Great Hall to welcome them solemnly to the national holiday and bring hope to all of us.
We ended up having friendly conversations and enjoying coffee and snacks, as at all events.
Although this event cycle has ended, we also offer other opportunities for people with disabilities and seniors to be socially active and engage in various interesting activities. If anyone wants to know more about them, we invite you to call the association's project department by phone. +371 26056026.
