The “Dvēseles veldzes dārzs” is a unique social rehabilitation and cognition centre in Ziemupe, Pāvilosta county, which provides opportunities to enjoy an accessible rural environment for people with different types of disabilities, their support persons and every nature lover and holidaymaker.
The centre was opened in 2015 by the Liepāja society for the blind, with the help of several supporters and collaborators, so that people with disabilities have a place tailored to their needs and can enjoy the beauty of nature.
We offer visitors who want to participate in various informative, educational and outdoor activities, to feel the splendour and peace of the countryside.
Services
People with disabilities can participate in garden work, improvement of the territory and various classes within the framework of social rehabilitation in order to acquire different skills and abilities. People there get to spend their free time in a rural environment in a targeted manner. Every visitor to the “Dvēseles veldzes dārzs” can enjoy the sounds, smells and tastes of nature grown locally. Fresh and natural food grown in the area is used to prepare delicious meals for visitors at the social rehabilitation and cognition centre.
We offer both people with disabilities and other stakeholders:
• Blindfolded educational masterclasses
An unusual experience for visitors that visit Ziemupe. They will be given blindfolded tours so its participants get an empathetic experience in the everyday lives of a blind person. With blindfolded eyes, in addition to using a white cane, it is possible for tour participants to navigate the area of the “Dvēseles veldzes dārzs” to use other senses - touch, hearing, tasting and smelling.
• A walk on the barefoot footpath
It reveals different sensations under your feet as you walk the 610-metre long footpath. The trail is located in a forest in the area of the “Dvēseles veldzes dārzs.” The walk will be interesting for both elderly and young people- as trail pavements change every 10 metres, swinging with obstacles of varying degrees of difficulty. This trail is made of people with different types of disabilities. It has been complemented by a safe orientation system for the visually impaired and blind.
• Hiking sensation in the park
You can experience the sensation Park, which houses a fountain, a beautiful tea room made from wood, and assorted plantations that will delight every visitor during the summer's flowering months. You can use different senses to enjoy it - view the gorgeous landscape, smell the blossoming flowers and shrubs, touch and even taste different plants, listen to the birds singing, or enjoy a moment of rest at the tea shop in the heart of the park.
• “Dievs radīja...” interactive viewport
A possibility for anyone with blindfolded eyes to check the accuracy of their senses and get to know the nature of Latvia. Boulders of different sizes found in Latvia, fragments of trunks from different tree species, cereals grown in Latvia, leather of forest animals found in Latvian nature.
• A swim in a "Dvēseles veldzes dārzs" pond
In the area of “Dvēseles veldzes dārzs” is a pond where everyone can go for a swim and cool off on the hot summer days. The pond is arranged to provide accessability for persons with functional disabilities by means of customised swimming rings.
• Various outdoor activities
Visitors can enjoy a good workout on the outdoor exercise machines, play table tennis or volleyball, and work their minds into an outdoor chess game or checkers with specially made, large-scale chess pieces.
• Fruit tree garden and maze
The area is home to a large orchard and also visitors can navigate through the 800 sq m thuja maze of "Smaragd".
Guided tour – 3 EUR for children under the age of 12, 2 EUR for people with disabilities and pensioners. If visitors take part in garden work and help those working in the area, there is no cost for the tour.
“Dvēseles veldzes dārzs” works on social enterprise principles. All proceeds are invested in the development of the centre to raise the quality of life for people with disabilities.
