Second “Jautrais pusdienas laiks” spent in soap bubbles, songs and puzzles
on June 16th, for the second time, people with disabilities and seniors had the opportunity to take part in the event “Jautrais pusdienas laiks” which we spent in true-Latvian sentiments with a touch of slightly childish joy.
To check how well we know our Latvian folk songs, each had to write the names of all folk songs they know on a coloured paper flower petal. Meanwhile, at the piano, the society's volunteer Edīte performed motifs of folk songs from “Tautasdziesmu vācelītes” to incite members memory and make it easier to remember titles. Edīte played tunes afterwards and everyone had to guess what folk song it was and start singing along. When the folk song was mentioned, those with the title written on the petal received a small sticker.
Like the previous time, blowing soap bubbles summoned delight, smile and unadulterated joy. While some didn't have soap bubbles like that when they were young, being able to enjoy them was an exciting event. In order to maintain the fun atmosphere, Inese, the organiser of the lunch time, told everyone Latvian anecdotes.
This time, contestants were particularly caught up in guessing puzzles. Most of them were not difficult to remember, but one puzzle at both events was hard: “a colorful cow with golden horns; the answer? a bee.” Guessing the puzzles was fun to everyone so the participants themselves began asking others their riddles:
• Full barn with sheep all sleep without tails - loaf of bread/Rita
• Two small goats, each with five legs - gloves/Biruta S.
• Two little sisters leaning against a mountain - ears/ Dzidra
After the songs were sung and the stickers on the colourful flowers collected, each participant went to a large cork board to pin their musical flower. Together we got a beautiful floral arrangement.
We organized this lunch time as part of the “Draugs, nāc draudzēsimies” activity.
