Project financed by Liepāja's municipality has concluded at Liepāja's society for the blind.
From February to the end of the year, Liepāja's society for the blind implemented the social inclusion project financed by Liepāja's City Council “Katru dienu darīsim to, kas labs un noderīgs cilvēkiem" (No. 52/2.8.5). During the project social inclusion and access to social services was promoted for all persons living in Liepāja with functional disorders, including seniors.
Thanks to the funding, the sustainability of activities taking place within the society was strengthened - day centre activities, subsidised workplaces, transport services, "International walking stick day" event, street act for motorists, handicrafts exhibition, open door days, the society's paper “Gaisma tumsā” were preserved.
During the project, the class cycle of the social inclusion course “Dzīves skola” was improved, in which members of the Liepāja's society for the blind got to know Liepāja better and to see  it all through a different, more beautiful perspective, looking at various art exhibitions, architecture and various institutions.
A cycle of seminars on universal design and emotional intelligence in contact with people that have disabilities was conducted and environmental accessibility advice was provided. Informative excursions took place throughout the project at the Liepāja society for the blind, with schools, kindergartens, as well as individual visitors showing great interest.
We organised an experience exchange trip for employees and volunteers to the Saldus social rehabilitation centre “Jumis” and the Kuldīga day care centre and school for seniors with the aim of acquiring new experience and building capacity.
In the heat of summer, a health consolidation event “Dzīvosim veselīgi” took place in which people with functional disorders, including seniors, at the social rehabilitation and cognition centre "Dvēseles veldzes dārzs", in Ziemupe. With overnight stays and meals for two days seniors and people with disabilities had the opportunity to participate in health-promoting activities.
The matchmaking event “Draugs- nāc draudzēsimies.” launched successfully in previous years, also continued.
Five video interviews with the society's active class leaders were created as of this year.
After COVID-19 restrictions, members were most excited to return again to the society's premises to be together, socialise and learn something new.
