“Jautrais pusdienas laiks” has commenced with music, laughter and soap bubbles

05.09.2022

on June 2nd, people with disabilities and seniors took part in “Jautrais pusdienas laiks” in which was filled with music and joyous emotions. We organized this activity right here, in front of the society building, in a pleasant shade of trees, so that through various joint activities the participants will make friends with each other.

The very beginning of lunchtime was filled with music. At the center of the circle of participants sat the society's volunteer Edīte, who has many talents – both leading creative classes and playing various tunes on the piano. Edīte easily played motifs of folk songs from “Tautasdziesmu vācelītes” to inspire others for the first activity.

From folk songs and anecdotes to soap bubbles

Each could choose one colourful paper flower and each was given a pen. The first task for participants was to write at least 4 Latvian folk song titles on the flower. After careful writing, it was also time to listen diligently – Edīte played motifs of folk songs, and those present had to guess their names. When the name is mentioned, everyone sings along together. Those for whom this folk song was recorded in a paper flower received a small sticker.

After we sung a little, there's was time for a little fun. And what did we do? We travelled back to our childhood and blew soap bubbles. As event attendee Arīja put it: 'am I fine, I guess I haven't been blowing bubbles since I was 10! We already have that age when there is such a child's mind, but what a pleasure to blow those bubbles!'

It's hard to describe, even in words, how much joy participants had with as simple an activity as blowing bubbles. But the joy didn't end with it, every now and then the lunchtime host Inese told everyone Latvian anecdotes, and other participants joined in and began telling their favorite jokes. In such a tandem, we also spent this “Jautrais pusdienas laiks” - occasionally mentioning and singing folk songs, blowing soap bubbles and listening to some good jokes.

Once the songs were sung and the stickers on the colourful flowers collected, each went to the big cork board to pin down their musical flower, and together we got a beautiful floral composition.
In conclusion, before eating snacks and sipping coffee, Edīte asked what song everyone wanted to sing together, with contestants opting for the folk song “Bēdu manu lielu bēdu” we're glad we were able to give each one such light and joyus feeling in our “Jautrais pusdienas laiks"!

We organized this lunch time as part of the “Draugs, nāc draudzēsimies!” activity.
