Informative excursions in "Dvēseles veldzes dārzs"
This year, in co-operation with the project promoting social inclusion of non-governmental organisations from May to October 2021, at the social rehabilitation and cognition centre in the rural environment “Dvēseles veldzes dārzs”, in Ziemupe in co-operation with the Social Service of Liepāja City Council, social services of local governments of the nearest Kurzeme Region and non-governmental organisations in Liepāja and nearby counties, we have implemented informative excursions for people with special needs, including families with children, seniors and their support individuals to familiarise themselvs, with a guide assistant in person, with the sights of the "Dvēseles veldzes dārzs" and learn about the operation of the centre and the opportunities it provides. This year, nine trips were implemented with the Liepāja society for the blind. The excurants were welcomed with coffee. A total of 67 people visited as part of the projects. The excurants were able to walk through the rural environment with their eyes blindfolded and their white cane, creating a sense of empathy in themselves, what it's like to feel the environment unseen.
Seniors with disabilities from Aizpute, Aizpute diabetes and disability society, Kurzeme State social care centre, Aizpute State social care centre, Kurzeme State social care centre, Iļģi branch, Liepāja pensioners society, and individual tours took place throughout this period.
Each of the excursionists had different emotions when visiting “Dvēseles veldzes dārzs” but all of them were positive. Everyone was excited about the beautiful environment. Others liked the nature trails and others enjoyed the sensation park more, tailored to visually impaired and blind people. For others, the informative stand "Dievs radīja", in which you can feel lots and lots of cereals, trees, pelts and rocks. In the warm weather, many were enthusiastic about the barefoot footpath, in which ground texture coverage alternates every 10 metres, interspersed with obstacles of varying degrees of difficulty.
