Experience exchange in Saldus and Kuldīga
Employees of the Liepaja society for the blind, this year on September 16th, on an experience-sharing trip visited the multifunctional social rehabilitation centre “Jumis” of Saldus. Here, children with functional disabilities and adults with mental disabilities improve their health. Children have access to a variety of classes, such as Montesori pedagogy, music therapy, etc. The children and their families have access to psychologists and social worker services. The pride of the centre is the sensory room where both children and parents can use certain techniques to stabilise their nervous systems. Adults have different workshops (carpenters, weaving, sewing etc.) set up for them to learn new skills.
In Kuldīga we visited the day centre for seniors, where they receive social care and rehabilitation, spending a quality time together, under specialist guidance.
We was also got familiar with the Senior School, where before retirement people take part in various activities with the aim of improving their quality of life and reducing social exclusion. At the school cognitive and educational lectures are organised for stakeholders, seniors are able to participate in sports activities, creative workshops are organised.
In Snēpele we visited the farm "Strauss un kaza".
We learned a lot of interesting things about breeding ostriches and goats, their use in food and cosmetics.
On this trip we made interesting ideas that we want to implement in our everyday work.
