A celebration of "International White walking stick day" went by!
The Liepāja's society for the blind has a special day on October 15th, marking "International White walking stick day". This year, after a two-year hiatus, we celebrated it back in person as starting from October 14th.
This year, as every year, there was an exhibition of handicrafts made by members of the society for the blind. We also hosted a street act for motorists, this time selecting Oskara Kalpaka Street. The aim of the promotion is to inform the public about people with visual impairment as every year. Admittedly, very few drivers stop at the sight of a raised white cane, mostly for two reasons, a lack of knowledge about the meaning of the white cane and a failure to notice the white cane.
This year, it has been a real pleasure for us to see our members again in such vast numbers and share everything we have achieved together. Young people from the string quartet "Dzintara stīgas" and our own society piano lecturer Inge Piterniece also helped us create a festive feeling.
