We started the ball musically. Raimonds Pauls playbook with notes and words was distributed to each so that the first activity could be launched. So, the event's manager, Inese, reads a few words from one of R. Pauls songs, and those around them should guess what a song it is. The task wasn't so simple, though, because we didn't read the words of the songs, which would be quite easy to remember. Of course, in case we couldn't quite remember the song, we read more familiar words. There were 5 songs in round one that had to be guessed:“Ai, dundur!”, “Viss nāk un aiziet tālumā”, “Es aiziet nevaru” and “Baltā dziesma”. At the end of the round, everyone could choose one of the songs to sing together. This time the favourite was “Baltā dziesma” which we sang as a co-chorus with the help of a songbook.

Then we played a game that everyone must have played as a child, the “mad libs” game. Everyone on the page first had to type a word that answered what?, then fold the writing and pass it on to another. Below, we did the same with questions like who?, when? where? and what did they do? until the hidden story is ready. Before the stories were read, there was time for the next round of song-guessing, in which songs had to be remembered this time: “Laternu stundā”, “Kāpēc man dziedāt svešu dziesmu”, “Circenīša Ziemassvētki”, “Baltā saule” un “Zilie lini” After guessing, everyone chose to sing “Circenīša Ziemassvētki” together. Then we came had a little laugh while reading the stories we made together.

The small extra activity was to remember small objects. In an opaque bag, we had piled various characters from Kinder eggs, which each had to try to pick up with and recognize with touch. Those who commemorated the items received candy as the prize.

In the final round of songs that had to be guessed: “Trīs runči”, “Trīs vīri”, “Sens ir tas stāsts”, “Teic Kurzeme tā”. We chose to sing “Trīs runči” from them. Singing was so much liked that participants were particularly keen to sing the lusty song “Muļķe sirds”.

After the great singing, we made masks whose stencils were cut out in the shape of a butterfly, so we got a “butterfly ball” too. Each could personalise their mask with a variety of decorations, stickers as well as drawings. Once the masks were ready, we were able to capture the atmosphere of this mask ball in photos and pay homage to the snack.

The next event is planned for August 18th, in which Kirils Švidčenko (PED. Dace Milzere), a pupil of the City of Liepāja music School, will perform with an acoustic guitar concert.
